Colonic Irrigation (also known as colonic hydrotherapy) is the gentle infusion of warm filtered water into the large intestine (colon) to help cleanse it of old faecal matter, gas, mucous and parasites. A healthy colon is essential to a healthy body. Conventional diets of today, comprised of refined and processed foods, high in saturated fats and low in natural fibre, coupled with sedentary lifestyle contribute to a multitude of bowel disorders and subsequent health problems.

COFFEE ENEMAS

The use of coffee enemas for detoxification purposes is well known. It is a common herbal remedy that has been used by holostic and alternative medicine professionals for many years.

It is interesting to note that drinking a cup of coffee has an entirely different effect to using it as a cleansing enema and in fact is counter productive to the DETOX process. Drinking coffee causes problems such as increased heart rate, palpitations, insomnia, can over stimulate the adrenal glands and leaves a toxic residue in the body.

A coffee enema will not cause these effects.

Blood passes through the liver to be cleaned of toxins every three minutes, with today's diet often high in processed foods, alchol and prescription drugs the liver becomes overworked and the channels within it become blocked forcing incoming toxins to re-circulate resulting in toxic overload. This can result in impaired liver function, skin problems, weight gain, cellulite, lethargy, aches and pains. The coffee enema can greatly alleviate these symptons. The chemicals theophylline and theobromine found in coffee stimulate the relaxation of smooth muscle causing dilation of the blood vessels and bile ducts within the liver allowing the toxins and the fat reducing bile fluid to be expelled rapidly into the large bowel.

The caffeine is a stimulant and encourages mass peristalsis, emptying the bowel and preventing reabsorbtion of the toxins. This is the bottom line of detoxification. In addition palminates kaweol and cafestol also found in coffee promote the activity of the enzyme system gluthione S-transferase well above the normal range. This enzyme group detoxifies a vast array of free radical chemicals from the blood stream.

A qualified nurse gently administers the coffee into the lower bowel using disposable equipment. Since the enema is held for 12 to 15 minutes, and the blood passes through the liver every three minutes for cleansing, the enema represents a form of dialysis of blood across the colon wall, without entering the digestive tract.
